STS Defence
Location: The Solent, Gosport | Completed 2024
Project Scope: Single Ply Roofing Installation
Mariner Projects was appointed to deliver the roofing package for a newly refurbished commercial building on the banks of the Solent in Gosport. The project involved the installation of approximately 1500m² of high-performance single-ply roofing, supplied by Soprema UK and mechanically fixed to a newly constructed timber deck.
Working closely with the main contractor following the installation of a new structural floor by others, our team coordinated the full roofing works to ensure a seamless integration with ongoing site operations.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Main Roof Area: Installation of Soprema single-ply membrane across 1500m², mechanically fixed to a new timber deck, ensuring long-term weather resistance in a demanding coastal environment.
Inverted Roof Zone: A small inverted single-ply roof area was constructed to house mechanical plant, requiring precise detailing to accommodate drainage, load-bearing insulation, and upstands.
Facade Detailing: To enhance the building’s aesthetic and weather protection, 3.3m high vertical single-ply cladding was installed on the façade, incorporating a standing seam detail for a sleek, architectural finish.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
Given the site’s exposed coastal location, careful planning was required to mitigate weather disruption. Wind uplift considerations also informed our choice of a mechanically fixed system. Coordination with other trades and clear sequencing were essential to avoid delays, particularly around the mechanical plant zone.
THE RESULT
The project was completed on schedule in 2024, delivering a robust, durable roofing solution tailored to both the functional and visual requirements of this unique coastal property.

Project Scope: Single Ply Roofing Installation

The Bottle Works project, located in the heart of Guildford, has been recognised for its innovative and high-quality roofing solutions, highlighting Mariner Projects’ expertise in single-ply roofing. The award recognises outstanding craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver durable and reliable roofing solutions in some of the most challenging projects.
The National Roofing Awards, widely regarded as one of the industry’s most distinguished accolades, was held in May at the iconic O2 in London. North Street Parade
Location: Havant, Hampshire | Completed 2023
Project Scope: Single Ply Roofing Installation
The North Street Arcade refurbishment in Havant, Hampshire, presented a complex roofing challenge. The building, which had been derelict for years, was redeveloped by South Coast property consultants, Holloway Iliffe & Mitchell.
We were able to ensure long-lasting durability and weather resistance while maintaining aesthetic appeal. Covering 650m2, this was a diverse project that included pitched and curved slate roofs, dormers, parapets, and various details.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Single Ply Membrane: For the flat roofing sections, we used Soprema’s high-performance single-ply membrane, which is mechanically fixed and known for its exceptional strength, flexibility, and superior waterproofing properties. This solution guarantees a durable, seamless finish that will withstand the elements for years to come.
Pitched Roofing: On the pitched roof areas, we integrated Spanish Slate to provide a reliable curved roof aspect, integrating Flag PVC upstands to dormer cheeks.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
Integrating both single-ply and slate required careful detailing to provide seamless roofing solutions: Both Single-Ply Membrane and Pitched Roofing worked together flawlessly, providing superior protection and performance.
Soprema’s in-house technical skills were invaluable to the project during the design and specification stages, as well as post-installation inspections.
Soprema’s warranties cover synthetic waterproofing and insulation systems and can extend up to 25 years.
